Friends of ULCC

If you love the traditions of
  church music
and the glories of
  Choral Evensong,
or you want to discover more about
  supporting a choir
then consider becoming a Friend of ULCC...

The University of London Church Choir (ULCC) originally sang as the choir of Christ the King, Gordon Square. When the University of London Anglican Chaplaincy stopped using this church in 1992, the ULCC became an independent body to continue the fine musical tradition which had been built up over the years. In the words of its constitution, the choir aims "…to promote, improve, develop and maintain public education in an appreciation of liturgical choral music by the provision of such music for Christian Church services and by presentation of public concerts and recitals".

The ULCC became a registered charity in 1992. The choir sings in a variety of venues around London and the South-east, and a specific aim of its constitution is to provide music for services in small parish churches where there is no regular choir. No charge is made for this.

Running the choir is costly. Our annual expenses include hiring a rehearsal venue for weekly rehearsals, reimbursing the Music Director 's expenses, organists' fees (as and when required) and the purchase of sheet music and books. Our fixed costs alone amount to more than £1100 per annum.

ULCC members, some of whom are professional musicians, give their time freely and without remuneration. Any fees for special services, e.g. weddings, are put into choir funds. Save for these fees, the choir's only source of income is the annual membership subscription paid by a small number of full members.

Why become a Friend?

Many of our members can no longer, because of family and other commitments, attend regular practices and be full members. However, they still enjoy singing with us from time to time.

We feel sure that many greatly value the service that the choir provides, including former members and parishes where we have sung, and would wish to help ensure that the choir can continue its work in aiding worship in churches and cathedrals in this way.

So please join us

All Friends' subscriptions will be held in a separate bank account and used solely to ensure the continued existence of the choir. Friends will be kept informed regularly of the choir's activities.

Newsletters are sent to Friends twice a year, and articles from old editions will be made available here in PDF (Adobe Acrobat) format.
